UFO’s: Ridiculous Debunking

greyDuring the late sixties and the seventies, when the important books were written, I read ALL of the books on UFO’s: sightings, pictures, abductions, mutilations, men in black etc.  I now occasionally take a look at what’s going on and the only thing that changes is that the sceptics become ever more bizarre. The scientists sink deeper into denial and governments become more adept at giving us misinformation. All the modern good stuff is deeply buried in some military hyper-secure digital bunker.  For this reason and others there is little for me to learn by reading all the up-to-date books.

UFO’s are as old as recorded history and probably much older, only recently have they become ‘non-existent’ and taboo.  But this corresponds with my theory that far from making progress we are making counter-progress, retreating into the ignorance of denial and embracing a destructive brand of extreme scepticism. We are now prepared to deny an uncommon phenomenal reality for the sake of an unexplained correctness. A sighting has become an “alleged sighting” a phrase that invokes negative connotations that are supposed to give rise to a snigger on the part of the listener followed by a hand waving rejection. Are we becoming predictable controlled automatons?

For those who don’t imagine themselves to be biological computers, what follows is a couple of works that look at ancient UFO sightings from a time when folks were not blinded by a pseudo-scepticism that pretends to be science:

Alien life before Roswell – pictures before computers

adamski
George Adamski picture from his book ‘Flying Saucers Have Landed’

adamskifoundation.com: The Adamski photographs, including his exceptional 16mm motion picture film footage, were taken between the years of 1949 through 1965; long before any sophisticated film technology and processes existed, including any computers or manipulative software programs. Today, absolutely anything can be manipulated, created and altered, and often is. However, the combined strength behind the original Adamski negatives, their known age and history, subsequent examinations, and successive decades of thousands of these similar crafts sighted and photographed worldwide, has, and continues, to PROVE the authenticity of Adamski’s materials.

The Battle of Los Angeles

electricpolitics.com:  ‘In the early morning hours of February 25, 1942, something huge and glowing flew high and at a stately pace over Los Angeles. Civil Defense anti-aircraft batteries fired over 1,400 shells at it, a still-classified number of interceptor aircraft attacked it, but it flew off and disappeared. The Army says “it” was a case of nervous jitters. The photograph a day later in the Los Angeles Times says it was something else. Plus, possibly over a million people were eyewitnesses. One of them, a boy of eight at the time… read it all at electricpolitics.com

A million witnesses to this sighting and literally millions more have seen them throughout history. What are these disk-shaped objects that are denied by science and governments?
A mass hallucination of a million people, or even worse, they were all suffering from some unspecified brain disease? You would think that scientists, paid to investigate would be interested in such an anomaly, but all we got, then as now, are denials.
*Unexplained weather phenomena.
*Hallucination
*Marsh gas.
*These things don’t exist!
The military, also hallucinating, fired 1,400 shells at an hallucination, a nonexistent, disk-shaped object in the sky, years before Arnold’s 1947 sighting that is supposed to have started the panic, or maybe it was Japanese planes that failed to drop a single bomb or fire a single shot?
The weather balloon rationalisation takes no heed of the 1,400 12.8-pound anti-aircraft shells fired and the fact that every one seems to have missed its target – illuminated like a football stadium.

Psychology
The science of psychology has an explanation for UFO sightings that goes roughly like this – with variations on the same theme: Having seen something we can’t explain the brain compares it with other past experiences, true or fictional and provides the nearest match. Because we have been bombarded with science fiction and UFO literature, all unexplained lights in the sky are matched to UFO’s. We are seeing things that don’t exist in reality. The thing that became an icon in 1947 with Kenneth Arnold’s sighting of a “semi-circular craft”, has also been pseudo debunked to death in the intervening years. (I’m aware of only one other instance when a ‘semi-circular craft’ was seen.) It was realised very early on that if an authority denies something on a regular basis for long enough, it becomes a fact.

There are some serious problems with this rationalisation and one would assume that those who are paid to mess around with minds would be aware of them: The disk shaped flying object has been with us throughout history, as can be seen from the painting below and in many others.

Baptism of Christ
The Baptism of Christ by Aert de Gelder (1645-1727) speaks for itself “It’s a flying saucer!”

Many trained observers including airline/military pilots, astronomers and policemen all see these same objects on a regular basis. Are we to suppose that they are all hallucinating? Are they drawing from preconceived ideas and if so, what is wrong with their training in observation?
Millions of witnesses have seen them, some at close quarters and so it must be asked, why there is no concerted effort by psychologists to determine why it is that a large proportion of the population see the same things that don’t exist? An equally important question is to ask why the same proportion of the scientific community don’t see them? If they are to be believed they are endowed with superhuman qualities by their scientific training! Maybe one of them could get in touch and tell us all about it?

There is a sizable library of pictures and video taken of these objects. Are they all faked? I will not believe they are until it’s proven that all of these countless photographers are pathological liars.

Is there something in the makeup of human psychology that makes thousands of people perpetrate the same hoax over and over again? Are all the pictures and videos of an indefinable ‘something else’ and are they molded by our imagination as we watch en masse? The idea has some far reaching implications for our concept of reality! Is it us who need to be studied, or the denial of scientists?

The sceptical take on this subject and many others is that UFO’s cannot possibly exist, so what else could they be? The “what else could they be?” being their way of avoiding the original question. BTW this is also the basis of the scientific mind-set, but as every scientist knows, proving that something cannot possibly exist is impossible and then there is the huge witness testimony, the photographs and videos to explain away.

I cannot lay claim to having seen a UFO myself. Some time ago I got a call from my brother who said he was watching a flying saucer skipping above the rooftops through his lounge window. A colleague at work told me, as he watched from his apartment window, a saucer landed in a nearby field. It’s occupants exited the craft and walked around before reentering and taking off. I would doubt that these descriptions are mistaken identity, hallucinations or lies. What did they have to gain by lying?

Ridiculous Debunking in 1979 – it gets worse with time

Forester Encounters Mine-Like Entities in Scotland (the Dechmont Woods Encounter)
Date: November 9, 1979
Location: Livingston, Scotland, United Kingdom

Robert Taylor, a forester from West Lothian, Scotland, encountered a strange object and equally strange smaller objects or “entities”. The rounded larger object, 20 feet in diameter, hovered above the ground. Then, two small objects, which were round but had appendages, “rushed” toward him. These objects each attached itself to one (each) of his trouser legs and tugged him towards the larger object, at which time Taylor lost consciousness. Ground marks were discovered at the scene of the encounter. Robert Taylor UFO Encounter video

A sceptical explanation was given in the original version of the TV program ‘Strange but True’ (Edited version link above), to ‘maintain balance’: The scientist said that what Bob Taylor saw was the magnified images of both Venus and Mercury, that were low in the sky that evening. The effect of this sighting brought-on an epileptic fit that cased him to hallucinate. His injuries were caused by his fall after becoming unconscious due to the epileptic fit. Note the thick grass in the picture above. To make a truly scientific analysis of this complex situation, the scientist would need to be qualified in astronomy and optics, a qualified medical practitioner and psychiatrist. Its hard to believe it, but many scientists are every bit as bonkers as this guy.

Police forensic scientists debunked
The explanation is contrary to evidence found at the site in the subsequent police investigations into a “criminal assault”, and also tests carried out by police forensic scientists. The forensic report stated: ‘the injuries, damage to clothes and marks on the ground, were consistent with Bob’s story’.

'Swamp gas.'
The original sceptic (skeptic)

These ‘officially sanctioned’ explanations are common and tend not to vary much over the years. The original must have been ‘marsh gas’ or ‘misidentification’ and the latest is ‘unknown meteorological effects’, all characterised by robotic repetitions. The most laughable is the ‘unqualified to observe’ and the most despicable is the inference that the observer is mad or suffering from some unspecified brain disease. Of course, these things do not apply to scientists or sceptics who are rendered immune by their incurable narrow-mindedness.

Like the legal system, science relies on hard evidence, but unlike the law, science refuses to consider witness testimony from non scientific sources – in the above example science even rejects evidence from police forensics scientists. Curious desperation, as the usual claim is that only those with scientific training are qualified observers. This is like the courts rejecting any testimony that is not directly from those with legal qualifications. Evidence from the public and the police rejected as unreliable. But in this case they are also kicking out the science. One can only imagine the chaos that would ensue if the law were to take such a stance, but science insists that this inconsistency is quite proper and rational.

As we see above, the scientific method fails to work where UFO’s are concerned, the reason being that science uses a thinking method called induction. This works (or not) by assuming that science has already encountered everything in the natural world and logged it somewhere. Therefore any natural phenomenon can be traced back to an account of the same phenomenon encountered and logged by a scientist in the past. (See the sub-heading *Psychology* above for a comparison.) UFO’s fly at unimaginable speeds, they do impossible right angled turns and sometimes reduce themselves to a dot in the sky that disappears completely. Or they evaporate into a mist. No scientist can claim to have observed anything scientific remotely capable of performing these actions: no theory: no physics: therefore: UFO’s don’t exist. What inevitably follows is a completely crazy denial due to cognitive dissonance. The scientist knows what has happened but cannot admit to it without destroying his science along with his own job. Such is the fragility of scientific reality.

John Lennon May Pang sighting

Lennon-sketch
John Lennon’s sketch of his New York flying saucer encounter (Photo: Liverpool Echo)

What we have here is the reaction of someone who is not a scientist but an artist: August 23rd, 1974 and Beatle’s singer/musician/songwriter John Lennon walked naked out on to the balcony of his New York apartment, and witnessed what he later described as a flying Saucer hovering close by, just above his window.

beforeitsnews.com says: This article includes an interview with Lennon’s assistant/girlfriend May Pang, who also witnessed the event, which completely describes the encounter.

“It looked like a flattened cone with a brilliant light on top.” – May Pang, assistant to John Lennon, describing the object they allegedly saw from Lennon’s balcony in NY City.

I was reading an article by Shelley Germeaux, a big Beatles fan, and she mentions an interview she did with John Lennon’s companion May Pang. In this May describes how the couple both saw a UFO while in New York.

This is how May Pang described the experience to Shelley:

‘John shouted, “May!! Get out here now!!”

So hearing this urgency, I drop the clothes and now I’m nude (laughs) and running out there.

“What is it?” I say.

He’s looking up and there’s this thing hanging over our heads! It moves slowly down the East River.

I said, “What the heck? What is it, a blimp?” Even though we knew what it was.

He said, “My God, it’s a f***ing UFO!”

I’m screaming at the top of my lungs and I look around and all the apartment lights around us are black. No one is home. Mind you, it’s Friday night – a hot, summer night, everyone is out. I’m screaming, like a wild woman, and he’s calm. No one hears us or comes out.’

In another interview May describes the UFO’s appearance:

‘It was shaped like a flattened cone, and on top was a large, brilliant red light, not pulsating as on any of the aircraft we’d see heading for a landing at Newark Airport. When it came a little closer, we could make out a row or circle of white lights that ran around the entire rim of the craft – these were also flashing on and off. There was no noise to be heard.

It actually flew sideways and dipped behind a building, then it came out again! You could have pitched a baseball at it. You could even see the wavy air around it from the heat. It was flying below rooftops!’
